8 Keys to Achieve Your 2024 Goals (or any goal)
How to improve your chances to accomplish your 2024 goals
Recently, I watched a Tony Robbins video on a planning method he calls the Rapid Planning Method (RPM).
I took notes on the video, but wanted to distill his teachings into a few meaningful keys that will help me in the future.
This is my distillation and I wanted to share it with you.
1. Define your result
What is the result you want? What’s the outcome you’re after?
What are the goals you want to achieve today, this week, this month, next year, in 5 years, and what will be the outcome of achieving those goals?
What is the result you want? What’s the outcome you’re after?
If you become clear about what you want, it will change what you do.
Be clear and specific.
“I want to lose some weight” is not clear enough. Will you lose 2 pounds, 10 pounds? Will you keep it off? What weight do you want to be?
Clarity is power.
We do things for three reasons:
- Because something bad will happen.
- Because something good will happen.
- Because it’s a part of our vision.
Reason 3 is usually prioritized last.
Write down your priorities and what you want to accomplish.
2. Language is crucial
We experience life the way we repackage it and label it.
We label experiences and they become that in your body.
We use habitual language patterns which impact our experience of life.
How do you label your life? Hard? Fun? Terrible? Amazing?
It’s important to be aware of your language patterns.
Language creates meaning, meaning creates emotion, and emotion determines what you’re going to do or not do.
Start with language. Start with the questions you ask and the words you use to answer them. Don’t start with to-dos.
3. Understand your purpose
Why? Why do you want to achieve your vision? What is your purpose?
Why is more important than how.
Why are you doing this right now?
Your purpose is the fuel of human emotion.
Motivation is your motive for action. Motives do matter.
Link your needs to your vision. There are 6 needs. If you link one need, you have an interest. Link two and you have a drive. Link three and you’re going to do it.
4. Inspect your focus
What we focus on we feel.
Focus determines your life.
Focus determines your destiny.
You make progress on what you focus on.
Phones are constantly stealing our focus.
If you don’t take control of your focus, somebody else will.
Take yourself out of reaction.
Whatever focus goes, energy flows.
Stop focusing on what to do or what not to do, and start focusing on your outcome.
Focus is power. Focus on the results that are most important to your life.
5. Ask good questions
Your questions determine your focus.
Ask different questions.
Change your questions, change your life.
Microsoft was created by asking, “How do we become the intelligence that controls all computers worldwide?”
Don’t ask what am I going to do? Ask what do I want? What’s my outcome?
Other examples:
What are the three outcomes we want this week?
What are the outcomes of this meeting?
What’s the most important outcome for my health this week?
What’s my most important outcome for my emotion this week?
Don’t command people, just ask questions.
6. Strategy is more important than tactics
A strategy is about the results we want, a tactic is what we do to achieve a result.
Start thinking in outcomes, not activities.
In Tony Robbin’s Rapid Planning Method, the alternative title is Results Purpose Map (massive action plan).
What’s your Massive Action Map (MAP)?
How? Brainstorm all of the hows.
You will need to take massive action and try a bunch of different tactics, but it’s most important to be clear on the strategy first.
Create your MAP: Your massive action plan for real and lasting results.
Maps don’t always work. There are many different paths to your end result, and you can always find another map.
7. Use chunking to understand your most important outcomes
Write out all of the shit you do.
Then, chunk together the different activities that are helping you reach the same result.
You’re chunking to meet your needs.
Tony calls these chunks “Categories of constant and never-ending improvement.”
Personal chunks: health (physical, emotional, spiritual), creativity, financial, relationships (family, friends, community).
Business chunks: marketing, sales, finances, culture, relationships, strategy, skills, product.
8. Use emotion to drive actions
Bring your emotion into your actions.
Where will you get enough emotional juice to keep going when things aren’t working out?
Words change emotion, it changes your state.
What are some words or phrases that can juice up your life?
Mine are: love, become, help, inspire, create, change, grow, develop, persist.
“Passion is the genesis of genius.” — Tony Robbins
Conclusion
These are the keys I will be using to define my goals, focus on my priorities, and overcome obstacles in 2024.
Here are 4 steps to plan your 2024 goals:
- What do you want?
- Why is that important to you?
- What will you need to focus on?
- What will you need to do for each thing that you want?
I hope it helps and I highly recommend his original video to learn more about planning, staying motivated, and being productive.
