Luck is not zero-sum

If you’re like me, you think of yourself as a lucky person.

But when I hear a story of how someone else got lucky, I can feel jealous.

Maybe someone was going to miss a flight, but it got delayed, so they still made it.

I’m not sure what the psychology is behind it, but I feel like their luck is taking away from my own.

I have to remind myself that that isn’t the case.

We can all be lucky.

Just because someone else is lucky doesn’t mean you aren’t lucky.

Just because someone else got lucky doesn’t mean you won’t experience luck.

It may just be their time. Your time will come later.

I regularly run by a sign that says, “We grow by lifting up others.”

We should never try to tear someone else down.

Be happy for people, celebrate their success, think positively, and positive things will happen for you, too.

There isn’t a finite amount of luck; luck is infinite.

Luck can appear out of nowhere, and most of the time, we create it in our heads.

Things just happen, and we perceive it as luck or not.

So be happy for others.

Congratulate them on their good fortune.

And “may the odds be ever in your favor.”
