Reflecting on my 2023 New Year Resolutions (+ Results and Changes)

2023 was nice.

I accomplished a lot, nowhere near what I hoped to accomplish, but that doesn’t mean I’ll stop trying.

I get a lot of value out of writing out my resolutions or goals each year to help me be intentional.

I learn even more reflecting on the year, what went well, what didn’t go well, and what I will change.

I encourage you to set aside some time to reflect on the past year and write out your resolutions and goals for this upcoming year.

Bonus points if you use the app I build to write, remember, and share *things* ✌️😂.

Here are my reflections on my resolutions, what I will change, and how I’ll improve moving forward.

1. Health is priority #1 (mental, physical, spiritual) (sleep, eating, meditating, exercising, praying, creating, writing)

I didn’t do this. I prioritized my work, my comfort, my taste buds, and my desires over my health many times.

I pushed myself to work harder, work longer, eat food that made me feel better (in the moment), and smoked too much.

I understand it is all relative, but I am the best judge of myself, and I know I can improve.

As a result, I felt anxious, sad, tired, fat. I didn’t sleep as well as I could or as long as I maybe needed. I didn’t meditate, pray, exercise, and reflect as much as I would like.

I did meditate every day and I did start exercising more at the end of the year.

This next year, I will be more disciplined in all aspects. I will work effectively within my bounds and will spend more time reading, exercising, praying, playing, and sleeping.

2. Sit and stand up straight

I was alright at this.

I tend to pay attention to my posture and be aware of my body.

Sometimes when I feel fat, I will slouch or cock my head up to hide my “double chin” lol.

I believe as I take better care of myself, this will improve.

3. Write things down when I want to

I did this way more, but I can still improve.

It’s the moments when someone says something I want to remember, I need to feel more comfortable writing it down. I enjoy remembering things and having a history of moments throughout my life, so I will lean in.

This also goes for taking photos. I’d like to write and take more photos this year. What is there to be afraid of? Everyone loves remembering things and looking at photos.

4. No smoking or drinking

I nailed half of this one.

I didn’t take a sip of alcohol all of 2023.

I was happy about this. I love not drinking.

I wish I hadn’t smoked at all, or at least much less.

There are moments when it is nice, but so often it leaves me upset with myself and I want to be better.

I’m going to have an occasional drink this year as I missed having a glass of wine with my mom or a beer with my brother or dad, but I don’t think I’ll have more than one on the days I do drink and those days will be very spread out.

I am committed to not smoking at all.

5. No eating in excess

Damn, I failed this one. I mean, not that much, but yes.

I’m working on my self-control and not letting things get out of hand.

I have a lot of confidence that I’ll be better this year.

6. Meditate for 10 min every day

I did it. I am super happy about it.

Most days I would do 2 times a day, and some meditations were 20 minutes. I really enjoy being silent, following my breath, and listening to my mind.

This is something I will continue to do this year.

7. Share something about Twos every day

I don’t think I did this. I mean I did with the oatmeal videos, but I could have been better.

I want to make more videos to answer users answers, make videos to teach people how to use Twos more, and write about Twos mroe.

This is something I will continue to focus on this year.

8. Stop touching my face

I still touch my face.

For those who don’t know, I have something called Trichotillomania. It’s a work in progress.

I’m trying to be more present and conscious of when I’m doing it.

I believe I will overcome it.

9. Make eye contact with people

I’m not sure if I was better at this this year.

I didn’t really talk to many people so I didn’t get the chance to notice it or not.

To be honest, I probably didn’t, but that doesn’t mean I won’t work on it this year.

I actually think it has a lot to do with self confidence, so as I improve my discipline and health, I believe this will also improve.

10. Do the hard thing first

I think I did a pretty good job at this.

I try to tackle the hard problems at work, but I can also see that I still have a lot of room to improve.

This is a constant act to work on what is most important regardless of its difficulty.

I will continue to lean into this this upcoming year.

Thank you for reading. I think public accountability helps me be honest and more responsible for my actions.

I know nobody is perfect, but I always want to be moving in the right direction and living up to my potential, and that was not something I feel I did this year.

I may be a bit harsh on myself, but it is what I know to be true.

I hope you will take some time to think about your year and make a list of the things you want to accomplish this year.

I’ll be posting mine in a day or so.

Have a happy and prosperous 2024.
